Green beans are tender common bean pods harvested before their seeds mature. In dog food they add fiber and, in some recipes, visible vegetable pieces. They make a reasonable plain extra, but their presence does not make a food a weight loss diet.

Vegetable growers harvest green beans while the pods are tender. The pods are the crop, not a processing leftover. Food makers cut them for visible pieces or remove water so they store and ship more easily.2,4,10
